On an investigation tour for the development of social sciences in Guangzhou, Yuan Zhenguo, Vice Director of Social Science Research and Ideological Work Department of the Ministry of Education, and Zhang Donggang, Director of Scientific Research Bureau, convened two symposiums at South China Normal University and Sun Yat-sen University on April 25.

The symposium at Sun Yat-sen University took place in the afternoon at the First Meeting room of Liang Qiuju Hall, which was attended by SYSU Secretary Li Yanbao, Vice President Liang Qingyin, Director of Social Sciences Office Cai He, distinguished scholars, as well as officials from Jinan University and South China University of Technology. Vice Director Yuan Zhengguo introduced the major principles and policies which Social Science Research and Ideological Work Department adopt for flourishing social sciences in the 11th Five-Year-Plan Period. The participating specialists expressed their views towards chances, problems and challenges for current social sciences, and gave valuable advices for laying out MOE medium and long-term plans as well as 11th-Five-Year plan for social science development.
