Governor of Hawaii Linda Lingle Visits SYSU

“ALOHA”, a greeting with strong Hawaii flavor from Linda Lingle, governor of Hawaii, immediately bridged the distance between her and the audience who responded with a full house applauding. On the afternoon of June 14, Linda Lingle delegation arrived at Sun Yat-sen University, the first leg of their Guangdong trip. “Dr. Sun Yat-sen is much respected and a household name in Hawaii. It is out of our admiration for this great man that we chose Sun Yat-sen University as our first stop,” said Lingle.

In the Swasey Hall, President Huang Daren and Vice President Li Ping met with the governor and signed cooperation agreement with the University of Hawaii. As an important part of the cultural and educational exchange between Guangdong Province and State of Hawaii, these two universities are going to collaborate in business training, medicine and biology area.

Once engaged in journalism, Linda Lingle is the sixth elected Governor of Hawaii and the first woman to lead the state since it achieved statehood in 1959. Standing on the platform of the Swasey Hall, she delivered a lecture titled Government’s Role in Education in the 21st Century for more than 300 students yesterday afternoon.
