The Fourth International Symposium on Logic & Cognition Held at SYSU

 

Sponsored by SYSU Logic & Cognition Research Institute and presided over by the institute’s director Ying Juer, the Fourth International Symposium on Logic & Cognition took place at the First Conference Room of Liangqiuju Hall on June 14-16. This symposium is centered on discussing the basic concepts of logic and the philosophical foundation of logic from the perspective of mind philosophy, language philosophy and cognition. SYSU Vice President Li Ping addressed the opening ceremony while the American Professor Bob Brandom the closing ceremony.

56 scholars at home and abroad attended the event, including Professor Bob Brandom from Pittsburgh, Professor John Haugeland, Danielle Macbeth from Chicago University, Professor AI Martinich from Texas University, Professor John MacFarlance from UC Berkeley and Professor Henry Jackman from York University.

As a special item on the meeting’s agenda, these 6 professors were invited by Professor Ying Juer to present at the oral dissertation defenses for two doctoral students. It’s said this was the first time that foreign scholars participated in the Ph. D. oral defense in China.
