The year of 2005 witnessed the flourishing of academic research at the Sun Yat-sen University Third Hospital: 6 projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation, 19 projects supported by the provincial Natural Science Foundation, and research funding surpassing 10 million yuan. Apart from the record high projects and funding received, the hospital also got one Gungdong Important Research Group Project, set up Vaccine Gene Research Institute in a joint effort with Pennsylvania State University in America and opened a new page in international cooperation. In addition, its Liver Disease Research Laboratory has been rated as Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory, which integrates the hospital’s strength in five principles, such as the domestically leading liver transplantation and infection control.
