Doctor Zhou Xinyue’s Research Achievement Published on Nature’s Website

 

On May14, the homepage of Nature's website gave a special report titled Thoughts of Money Soothe Social Rejection on Doctor Zhou Xinyue’s research article (http://www.nature.com/news/2009/090514/full/news.2009.481.html). The article, subjected The symbolic power of money: Reminders of money alter social distress and physical pain, is soon to be published in the famous psychological journal Psychological Science.


Through six experiments, Doctor Zhou Xinyue (First author and Corresponding author) with Professor Kathleen Vohs of Business School of University of Minnesota and the University of Florida psychology Professor Roy Baumeister proved that the concept of money is effective in combating biological pains and reducing pains brought about by social exclusion.

The report made by Nature spoke highly of the significance of the research result. Nature also interviewed Professor Nathan DeWall, the psychologist of the University of Kentucky, U.S. and Professor Dan Ariely, the behavioral economist of Duke University. Both believed that the research would help unfold the changing relationship between the resistant force of money and social behavior.

The renowned scientific magazine New Scientist and BBC also gave reports of the research prior to Nature’s website.
