On May 13, Office of Medical Science held the 12th medical academic salon “Signal Transmission and Disease study” in the north campus, which was consisted of an academic symposium and a discussion forum. Over 200 teachers and postgraduate students from the south and north campuses as well as other universities in Guangzhou attended the salon. The salon invited Prof. Li Mengfeng, Li Mingtao and Pan Jingxuan from Zhongshan School of Medicine, Prof. Chen Wen from School of Public Health, Prof. Kang Tiebang and Liu Qiang from SYSU Cancer Center, and Prof. Zheng Limin and Zhuang Shimei from School of Life Sciences to give academic lectures. The professors invited introduced their academic work and progress in the signal-transmission-related fields of cell transformation, cell cycle regulation, neuronal apoptosis, tumor immunity and R&D of small molecule drug respectively, and discussed the related topics about cell signal transmission insightfully yet in simple and explicit terms. The lectures attracted a large number of students and the hall was packed. Participants in the salon discussed and exchanged ideas with the professors about related academic issues, making the salon brimming with an enthusiastic atmosphere and academic air. The symposium was hosted by Liu Qiang, vice-director of Office of Medical Science, who was awarded the National Science Funding for Outstanding Youth.
