2) Athletic Facilities and Services

       Sun Yat-sen University boasts a complete set of athletic facilities. Huo Yindong, the vice president of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, as well as SYSU’s honorary doctor, invested 37 million Hongkong dollars to build Yingdong Athletic Center in 1988, including Yindong Athletic Hall, one standard ground track field with plastic 400-meter-long racetrack, six tennis courts with plastic floor, a combined ball court (seven basketball courts and two volleyball yards), two standard swimming pools and one dive pool. Apart from that, SYSU also possesses a standard 400-meter-long ground track field (turfed football field included) and eight basketball courts. 

Applying for Swimming Card

South campus: SYSU staff and faculty members can go to the Department of Physical Education to apply for the swimming card by providing their medical card stamped by the university hospitable for health qualification and one inch photo. For staff’s relatives, they should provide university residence booklet in addition. Fee rate:20 RMB/person

North campus: for headquarter staff, apply at health care section; for staff in affiliated hospitals, apply at the medical section.

             Applying hours: office hours from Monday to Friday, two weeks prior to the opening of the swimming pool (usually through May to September).

Zhuhai campus: apply at the Athletic Office with valid credentials and physical qualification certificate (medical card) as well as one inch photo.

Faculty and Staff Recreation Center on the South Campus

         With its location by the east side of West Lake in Yuanxi district on south campus, the Faculty and Staff Recreation Center, subordinated to university Labor’s Union, is a place for staff’s recreation after work. Completed in1993, the 1,800-square-meter center consists of a ballroom, multi-function karaoke room, gym, pingpong room and three badminton courts, providing an ideal place for the university’s staff and faculty to get together and entertain themselves.

    Services:

    The ball room on the first floor: providing charged classes of aerobics dancing, shaping-body dancing, folk dancing, and shadow boxing from 5:30 to 9:00 in evening throughout the whole week.

The pingpong room on the first floor: open to the faculty and staff without charge from 4:00 to 7:30 in every afternoon. Free entrance against Employee’s Card or Union Card within the prescribed time. Otherwise, entrance against the Activity Card which is available at two prices: 30 RMB (10times/person) and 80 RMB(30times/person).

The multi-function ballroom on the second floor: a capacity of 200 persons. Equipped with high quality sound device and central air conditioner. Open on Wednesday and weekend. Entrance against Employee’s Card or Union Card. Ticket is available at 4 RMB for each person and Activity Card 40 RMB (12 times/person).

The multi-function karaoke room on the second floor: a capacity of 24-30 people. Advanced sound facility with provision of tea service. Ticket:15 RMB/person.

The gymnasium on the second floor: equipped with all kinds of body-fitting facilities. Open to the faculty and staff free of charge during 4:00-5:30 in Tuesday and Friday’s afternoon against Employee’s Card or Union Card. Charged entrance against 2-yuan ticket, or Activity Card ( 20 RMB for 10 times/person, 50 RMB for 30 times/person) from 8:00 to 10:00 in evening from Tuesday to Sunday.

Outdoor badminton court: open to the faculty and staff from 4:00 to 7:00 in afternoon free of charge. Entrance against Employee’s Card or Union Card.
