In early morning of August 15 (Beijing time), Yang Jinghui, a SYSU
student, and his partner Tian Liang, a famous diving athlete, defeated
all the other competitors, and won the gold medal in men’s synchronized
10m platform, earning credit and honor for both Sun Yat-sen University
and China.
The news of clinching gold by Yang Jinghui cheers up all the faculty
and students in Sun Yat-sen University. Party secretary Li Yanbao and
president Huang Daren sent to him a congratulatory telegram in the name
of the university. In the next afternoon, vice secretary Chen Weilin,
accompanied by Guo Wenliang, secretary of the School of Education,
brought Yang’s admission notification and the letter of congratulation
to his home in Guangzhou to extend congratulations to his family.
In the letter, Mr. Li Yanbao and president Huang Daren congratulated
Yang and his teammates on making great accomplishment and thanked him
for winning honor for China. The letter says “Cherishing passion and
dreams, you and other Chinese athletes exerted great efforts with sweat
for our country. Your hard work and achievement is sure to encourage
SYSU people on their way towards progress”.
Yang Jinghui is just enrolled at the School of Education in Sun
Yat-sen University. He began his diving training in Guangzhou Yuexiu
Diving Team with Wang Youguang as his coach in 1992 and entered China’s
National Diving Team with Zhong ShaoZheng as his coach in 2002.
