The Venus Singing Contest

The Venus Singing Contest is one of the reserved programs of campus culture in Sun Yat-sen University. Starting from 1986, this annual program has been held 18 times. It is sponsored by the Youth League Committee of Sun Yat-sen University and operated by the Campus Broadcasting Station—a student organization. From sign-up to the scene of contest to the selecting singers, the whole process of the competition is undertaken all by students, which demonstrates the high level in planning and organizing activities of the student societies and clubs. Ever since the successful holding of the first contest, the total planning of the competition and general performance of the singers have been improving year after year. This annual event has become a major cultural happening with active participation and high expectations from the students, and also an ideal stage for the students of Sun Yat-sen University to fully demonstrate their artistic talents and youthful demeanor.
